Well, in order to rank good on the result chart of the organic search, ranking the keywords is very important. However, SEO does not always suit to become what you are looking for.

Google Trends

It’s a free tool. Another useful tool from Google: Google Trends. Google Trends will show you the graph which shows the search trends.

Here you will get 12 months data of that particular keyword. There are some filters which you can use to refine your search. Like:

Country: You can select targeted country.

Time Range: Here you can select time range as per your need.

Category: You can select relevant category.

Search Type: Here you can select: Web, Image, New, Google Shopping, & Youtube Search

In Google Trends, you can check data by “Interest by subregion”, “”Related Topics” and “Related Queries”.

Before, selecting any keywords make sure you have checked all the options like: Interest by subregion, Related Topics, Related Queries.

Google Keyword Planner

GKP has changed a lot. Now, if you open Google Keyword Planner, it gives you 2 options:

  1. Discover New Keywords
  2. Get Search Volume and forecasts

You can select any option depending on your requirement. Let’s start:

  1. Discover New Keywords: If you want to explore new keywords, then this is the right option for you. As per Google Instruction, “Enter words, phrases, or a URL related to your business”.

NOTE: You can search maximum 10 keywords at a time.

After this action, Google will start working and gives you keywords suggestions. For each suggestion, you will get:

  • Monthly Searches
  • Competitions
  • Ad Impression Share
  • Top page bid (low range)
  • Top page bid (high range)
  • Account Status

There is one catch. If you want to search more then enter 9 keywords and add 1 URL’s like this:

2. Get Search Volume and forecasts: If you have already shortlist the keywords just want to check the search volume and forecasts then select this option.

You just have to copy and paste or you can upload a file. After that, click on “Get Started” button. It will be redirect on Forecast screen. Like this:

There is no keywords suggestion in this option. Here you will get:

  • Ad Group
  • Max CPC
  • Clicks
  • Impressions
  • Cost
  • CTR
  • Avg Cpc.



SEMrush is a paid tool and having lots of options like: in-depth information, CPC, Volume, trends, number of results ad copies and many more.

You can enter keywords or domain in keywords research option.

Here you will get lots of options and filters and on the basis of that you can select keywords accordingly. Like, I have entered SEO Tools and I found these numbers:

You can download Phrase Match or related keywords reports and select best keyword for yourself or for your client.



To do keyword research in Ahrefs, you need an Ahrefs Keyword Explorer access. If you have the access, then you able to do the keywords research in Ahrefs.

Here you have to enter multiple or single keyword on which you want to do research. Here I’m entering ”SEO tools”

After entering the keywords, you will redirect to new screen which look like this:

Here you will get many options such as Search Volume, Return Rate, Clicks, Global Volume, Traffic Potential and many more.

These all features will help you to select the keywords. Along with these figures, you will also get possible alternative keywords ideas, suggestions. If you scroll down further, you will view SERP position of websites who are using that keyword.


Moz’s Keyword Planner

To use Moz’s Keyword Planner, you need a access or create a new account in Moz. If you Moz’s Keyword Planner, the screen looks like this:

Here you have to enter keyword, root domain, subdomain, and exact page. Then, you have to select the language.

Again, I have entered “SEO Tools” in search box and here we get the research of my keyword.

Here you will get Search Volume, Difficulty level, Organic CTR, Priority, Keywords Suggestions and SERP Analysis. Through these options, you can select relevant keywords for your website.


Keywords Everywhere

Keywords Everywhere is a browser addon that you can download from Google Play Store. This free tool will give you monthly search volume, cost per click, competition data. You can directly copy or download in an Excel, CSV or PDF file. Select any set of words on any website and right click to get the keyword data for the selected words

It is recommended to select a word which owns a good volume of search and is quite popular. Well, it is not compulsory to choose a keyword which looks difficult or complex.

Moreover, choosing complex keywords can turn down as too competitive, so it is better to avoid such words which are not worth the time you are investing.
